Arena Nightclub
From a fish factory on Wakefield Street, David Howell and Richard Priest created an unlikely fantasy in the Arena nightclub, at the tail end of the extravagant 1980s. It was my first large commission and my introduction to working at architectural scale. I was asked to develop the concept for the concave portico at the entrance, then design and produce the glass wall that defined it.
Most records from the time have vanished, but these few photos remain. The project still marks the moment my work shifted scale.
